There has been lots of coverage recently of fun-runs, with regular runs popping up all over the country and colour or glitter runs to make it more of an event. Public health campaigns are keen to see us undertake training for a “couch to 5k”, but there are 5k runs and there is the Gung-Ho!

No ordinary race, Gung-Ho! brings together giant slides, mazes and other challenges as part of an impressive inflatable obstacle course and is returning to Birmingham with new obstacles.

Remember all the TV shows you used to watch with your family? Programmes like Fun House or It’s a Knockout and, more recently, Total Wipeout? This is your chance to give it a go yourself. Adults and children are welcome, so why not make a weekend of it?

There is so much to do in Birmingham, and if you’re not local, make yourself at home and choose Birmingham serviced apartments instead of a hotel.

Over 100,000 people have tackled Gung-Ho! since its launch, and it’s back in Birmingham at Cofton Park on Saturday 16th June as part of a 22-date UK tour. The inflatables hold enough air for 75 million footballs!

If you’re keen to put in some training for a 5k race of your own but maybe you’re new to fitness activities, check out the programme from the NHS Live Well.

Treat yourself to a stay in Birmingham luxury serviced apartments in the city centre and be in the heart of the bars and restaurants, theatres and concert venues. Birmingham has activities for the whole family all year round, and if you’re travelling with children, having your own space in a short-term booked apartment gives you extra flexibility and privacy.

The Gung-Ho! course, now in its fourth year, can take 5,000 people each day, but places fill up fast, so make sure you book your ticket early for a big dose of fun for all the family. There is no age restriction, though competitors must be at least 4ft tall and in generally good health. Participants can raise money through sponsorship if they choose, and the official charity for Gung-Ho! in 2108 is BBC Children in Need. Every penny raised will help make a difference to some great causes.

Book your tickets and accommodation soon, and you’ll have something to look forward to!
